Who are our DAR Patriot Ancestors?  

      Canandaigua Chapter DAR members are descendants of at least one verified Revolutionary War Patriot who supported the American Cause with their military, public or civil service between 19 April 1775 and 26 November 1773, or may have been Foreign Nationals who supported the American cause. 

      Military Service was provided by officers and men of the Continental Army, Navy, Marines, State and Local Militias, State Navies, the French Army and Navy, the Spanish Army and Navy and other foreign military volunteers.



      But not all patriot ancestors were in the military. 

      Citizens who led the business of local and regional American government business, American courts and served on American Committees provided Civil Service in support of the American Cause. 

     Civilians provided Patriotic Service in support of the American Cause as spies, territorial scouts, ministers, nurses, doctors wagoners, defenders of remote outposts, Prisoners of War, refugees, and those suffering depredations.

      Another important form of Patriotic Service was rendered by citizens who paid Taxes to the American Government, donated funds or goods, or loaned funds to the new American Government.

       Foreign Nationals, especially those from France and Spain, provided critically important military and financial assistance in support of America's cause against the British.

     All service to America's cause; Military Service, Civil Service, Patrioti Service and Service by Foreign Nationals are equal and valued.  All were critical in the prosecution of the war and the creation of the new independent American Government.
